While jamming with the Warwick to Little Feet's "Let It Roll", the D string broke. I wasn't slapping but I was into it and I guess was playing pretty hard. I haven't boiled my strings like I did when I first started out (stupid, I know), so I wasn't expecting any breakage. The strings aren't that old so I am thinking its a defect. No biggie really but it called for a re-stringing. As I didn't have any flat wounds, I had to use round wounds - and boy are they bright. The bass sounds like a steel piano now. And as I look at the remaining bass string packs I have in my gig bag, I can't remember what I put on.
After I removed the old strings, polished the brass frets with steal wool, applied bees wax to the body and neck, I noticed the B string bridge adjustment was loose. The spring (red arrow) is loose and not under too much pressure. The string holds it in place but I don't like that its loose. I suppose I will take it in to get fixed. I'm thinking maybe time for an overhaul - but then what else can I have done to it? I've had a tech work on it every few years so the neck is still good and the electronics still sounds killer.
I have been thinking about a bass ramp too. Maybe an overhaul and a ramp installation?
I'll see how these new strings feel and sound in a band setting and decide either to keep or replace.
