I've been researching other bass players blogs, youtube channels, facebook pages, and web sites. It looks like about half of them have their own library of basses - meaning they collect bass guitars. I've seen pictures of their music rooms with the walls covered with hanging basses or the room full of basses on guitar stands.
In my previous life, I was a scientist. Typically, the hording behavior run deep in a scientific mind - categorizing and labeling the elements of your particular branch of study. However, I made a decision a long time ago: I don't want to be a librarian. I looked around and found that I was collecting stuff just for the sake of collecting it. It served no greater purpose.
As a result, I have made it a policy that I only keep two basses - one main workhorse and a backup in case the workhorse goes down.
This means when I get my next bass, I need to decide which bass will be leaving me. As I think on it now, I am looking for a replacement for the Warmoth. I am going to get a fretless and it makes sense to replace the current fretless.
But as I stated in a previous post, I am changing my Warwick to a piccolo bass so it can't be used as a backup for normal gigs.
Which means my library will grow to three.
