Devon bass #2 showed up at my door. Thank you FedEx for not losing it this time. I'll have a in-depth review of it after I've spent some time with it but my initial thoughts are this really is a fantastic instrument. Devon did a remarkable job. The number one thought I'm hit with when I pick up the bass is its weight - its very light. I know Devon chambers his basses but I wasn't expecting it to be this light. This thing will spoil me for all future basses. No longer will I be stuck with a 10 pound Warwick Thumb around my neck. Heck, even my Warmoth Jazz feels heavy compared to this.
The pre-amp on the bass will need some time to master. Not only are the NordStrand Duasl Coil 5 pickups new to me, the three band pre-amp will need fine tuning. There is also an active/passive switch....which I might use more than I originally assumed (meaning use more passive mode). |
I need to spend time on the bass to get the hands used to the new neck. Devon does a really unbelievable job rolling the neck sides...so smooth and hand-friendly. But its an adjustment from the Warmoth Jazz - and it will take a little time before it feels like home.
I am very pleased and happy with this bass. Devon is a great guy and a great luthier. More to say about the bass after I've spent some time on it.
