Tim sent me a few pictures of an old band we were in back in the day. The name of the band was "Boys with Toys". The only songs I can remember doing as that band were the Motels' "Mission of Mercy", David Lindley's version of "Mercury Blues", and INXS' "I Send a Message". I'm not too bumped about my band memory, though. I have a cassette recording of an even older band doing Bruce Springsteen's "I'm Going Down". Our version had Pete on drums and lead vocals. To this day, Pete swears that wasn't him. Oh boy... Photos by Satch (my pop).
The gig I subbed for with Highway91 at Farnsworth Park was fun but the full day of sun took its tole on my white bread exposed skin. I used enough sun-block goop to coat a large hippo but I focused it all on my head. As a result, at the end of the day, my right wrist was strawberry red. Thankfully I wore a long sleeve shirt. I could deal with a peeling wrist but pulling sheets of burnt dead skin off my arms would land me in a side tent at the circus under the "lizard man" banner. I spent an hour visiting the Fullerton Museum today. Part of the museum tour is the Lowdown on the Uproar: Leo's Electric Basses. It's an entire room dedicated to Leo Fender's electric bass work. I'll be with Highway91 this Saturday, 4/26, performing from 11 until 3 at Farnsworth park in Altadena, CA More images of CheapDate from the 2nd Annual Centanni-Cottle Memorial 5K Run/Walk that took place in Yorba Linda, CA on March 23rd.
Short video from the Saint Patrick's Day gig at The Olde Ship. I only caught the last verse and chorus...and listening back I wish I caught the entire song. Its one minute of five part harmony - and it puts a smile on my face every time I hear it. Dang these dudes and chics can sing. CheapDate performing Neil Young's After the Gold Rush. Video taken with an iPhone from my vantage point at the back of the stage. CheapDate is Tim, Pete, Ellen, Anne, and Mary - all singing. Not pictured nor playing are Dom, Jeff, and bonehead. The The 2nd Annual Centanni-Cottle Memorial 5K Run/Walk in Yorba Linda went off smoothly and the gig was both enjoyable and emotional.
On Monday, March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day, I'll be performing with CheapDate at The Olde Ship. We start at 7pm and go until 11:30 or so.
