A flowering venus flytrap plant is a rare event, at least to me. So when I encountered one in my kitchen window, images of Rick Moranis feeding his blood-eating plant in Little Shop of Horrors flashed before my eyes.
I have always had a green thumb and as a result, everywhere I lay my head is usually well stocked and surrounded with various species of plants.
I have tried multiple times to keep venus flytrap plants. Who doesn't like the idea of feeding bugs to a plant?
But even with successful feedings, I could never keep a plant alive longer than a few months.
However, I bought a plant off Amazon a year ago and for some reason, it is still alive. More than alive. It flowered.
The only difference I used in its care was more water and no bug dinners.

I am not a botanist nor am I an expert on plant care. However, I always thought of myself as well read on plants - but I was astonished to learn (wikipedia)...
"...When grown from seed, venus flytrap plants take around four to five years to reach maturity and will live for 20 to 30 years if cultivated in the right conditions...."
20 to 30 years?
I planted the seed pods in with an African Violet about a month ago - nothing yet. I'm not optimistic as I doubt I have the right conditions for the seedlings to sprout. But I would be such the proud papa if these little guys took off.
Who knows...
