Just a quick blurb about paint.net
I'm always on the look out for free or open source software. For photo editing tasks, I use paint.net. It handles the tasks I throw at it with ease and its easy to use. I like the fact that it started as an undergraduate college senior design project, and is now currently maintained by some of the same people that originally worked on it. Highly recommended. Windows only.
